'The lessons I had in the UK did not focus on rote learning and memorisation. We were allowed to discuss anything that aroused our interests, and, since our interests and passions are crucial to learning, I think that this model of education can truly allow us to learn.'

Owen Lee, winner of Study UK summer school competition 2017

Owen Lee, winner of the Study UK summer school competition, shares with us his experience of studying at the Chelsea Independent College (CIC) in London, from experiencing the liberal study environment in the UK and socialising with students from different nationalities and cultures in the ‘common room’ to taking good care of himself without his parents around (even though it was for just two weeks!) and studying the Business and Finance course, whose teaching style he found to be very different from that which is typically found in Hong Kong.

“What's next for inclusive education?”

The British Council is organising the “What's next for inclusive education?” - A forum on Learner Diversity and Creative Teaching: Gathering Perspectives on Tuesday 12 December 2017.

The aims of the forum is to provide educators with a platform to share perspectives and experience on learner diversity in Hong Kong and internationally; teachers with practical, creative teaching ideas to use in their classrooms to promote learner diversity; and to connect academics and policy makers with those who are working at the front lines (e.g. teachers, educational specialists) and those experiencing the effects of government policy (e.g. parents, NGOs) to gain new or update perspectives.
